ベナン共和国の国歌「新しい日の始まり」（L’Aube Nouvelle）は、ジルベール・ジャン・ダノンによって作詞・作曲されていあｍす。

1960年にフランスから独立し、ダホメー共和国が成立（1975年11月にケレク政権が国名をベナン人民共和国に改称）した際に国歌として採用されています。

正式国名: ベナン共和国。通称：ベナン
フランス語：République du Bénin（レピュブリク・デュ・ベナン）
英語：Republic of Benin（リパブリク・オヴ・ベニーン）
独立: 1960年にダホメー共和国としてフランスより独立。その後、1975年にベナン人民共和国となり、さらに1990年に社会主義政策の放棄と共に現在の国名、ベナン共和国となっています。
首都: 憲法上の首都はポルトノボ（Porto-Novo）ですが、事実上の首都機能は同国最大都市のコトヌー（Cotonou）です。
面積: 112,620km2（99位）
人口: 12,123,000人（89位 / 2020年総計）
政治体制: 大統領を元首とする共和制国家。大統領は行政権を担い、民主的な選挙によって選出。任期は5年、3選は禁止。立法権はベナン政府と国民議会が担い、一院制の国民議会の定員は83人、任期は4年。
民族構成: 約42の民族が居住しており、南中部のアボメイ周辺のフォン人が38.4％、南部のアジャ人が15.1%、南東部のヨルバ人が12%、北東部のバリバ人が9.6%、フラ人が8.6%（2013年のデータ）。
言語: 公用語はフランス語。その他、フォン語、ヨルバ語など、それぞれの民族の言葉が話されています。
宗教: 人口の42.8％がキリスト教徒（27.1％はカトリック、5％はen:Celestial Church of Christ、3.2％はメソジスト、7.5％はその他のキリスト教）、24.4％はムスリム、17.3％はヴォドゥン、6％は地域に伝わる伝統的な信仰（英語版）、1.9％はその他の宗教（2002年センサス）。
