インドの国歌『Jana Gana Mana』は、インドの「詩聖」として大きな尊敬を集めている詩人・思想家のラヴィーンドラナート・タゴール（＝タークル）（Rabindranath Tagore / 1861年5月7日～1941年8月7日）がベンガル語で作詞・作曲した曲です。

『Jana Gana Mana』とは「インドの朝」という意味です。タゴールが書いたオリジナルの詩は、1番から5番までありますが、国歌としては1番のみが歌われています。

『Jana Gana Mana』は、1911年12月11日、カルカッタで開かれたインド国民議会で初めて歌われています。そして、1950年1月24日に、インドの憲法制定議会によってインドの国歌に公式に採用され、今日に至っています。

さて、インド古典音楽の真髄は声楽にあると言われていますが、「ジャナ・ガナ・マナ」（Jana Gana Mana)は、いかにもインドらしいフィーリングに満ちたスケール感溢れる美しい曲です。管理人お気に入りの国歌の一つです。

ちなみに、タゴールは1913年にアジア人として初のノーベル文学賞を受賞している詩聖です。そして、インドのみならず、バングラデシュの国歌もタゴールが手がけています。
